Hello! My roots in Polk County run very deep, and I am researching *many* families. However, the main family I am working on are all the descendents of Amos and his son Jonathan ARLEDGE, who settled in the Green River Cove from SC in the early 1800s. If you are an ARLEDGE descendent, please get in touch with me. My email address is listed above, and my phone number is 412-244-9009. I am also researching families who married in to the Arledge family, especially the HOLBERT, WALDROP, and RUCKER families. I'll be glad to share information with anyone, and would like to know your lines if you share these family names.

Glenn McCoullough Forrest II Sat Feb 15 20:06:14 1997 I'm researching the "For(r)est" family, which according to living members of the family, has some roots in Saluda, NC. The immediate problem is finding proof positive about the dates, names, and places of my grandfather, his parents, and any other family members.
The only lead I have, and this comes from living relatives who are satisified with what they remember, is that my grandfather John Franklin Forest came from Saluda, NC. No hard proof or fact exist which supports this or any other family lore concerning John Franklin.
1. John Franklin Forest was supposedly born in Saluda, NC in 1889. 2. He was vehement about his last name being spelled with one "R" versus two. Eight out of 10 of his children changed the spelling, unoffically, to Forrest. 3. John Franklin move to, spent most of his life, married, had all of his children, died, and is buried in Greenville, Greenville county, SC. He died in 1957. 4. He married Effie Belle Randolph, from Greenville, in about 1909. Effie Belle was born in 1895. 5. They had 10 children, in birth order, James Bruce, John Franklin Jr., Augustus Collier, Hester Burnell, Glenn McCoullough, ( my father ), Roy Otto, Barbara Elaine, James McAfee, William Thomas, and Dallah Andersen. The first 3 are deceased. The remainder all live in Greenville and they generally aren't interested in the family tree. They are satisfied with what they rememeber. 6. John Franklin was adamant about spelling his last name with 1 "R", Forest. Eight of the 10 children changed the spelling of the last name to Forrest, 2 "R's". Nobody can remember why they changed. The 1920 census supports the spelling with 1 "R". 7. Family memories are that John Franklin had several, among other children I guess, half brothers, Alvin, Seymore, and TC. Thus, his father might have remarried. Nobody knows. 8. The family remebers that John Franklin's father was named Ben or Benjamin Franklin For(r)est. No one can recall John Franklin's mothers name. 9. Family lore points to a cemetery plot at Page Mountain Baptist Church in Saluda, NC. The plot has a large tombstone that says B.J. Forrest, no date born, died in 1890. Here there are 22 graves. All except one of which spell the last name as Forrest, 2 "R's". The 1 exception John Forest, died in 1884, thus he couldn't be John Franklins father. 10. On the back of the tombstone it says the family of Ben Forrest: b-1851, D-1931. It then list his wife Melvia S. Forrest, b-1853, d-1923. It also list several family names none of which my father remembers. Glenn McCoullough Forrest II
C Richard Denton I am trying to research the Denton family which has been in Rutherford/Polk county since the late 1700's. Earliest US Archives put them in Columbus around 1750. They were landowners in the area. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. With thanks,
